Clinical Coding Assistant (unity)
For many years, the Clinical Coding environment across Australia has been controlled by a single coding solution provider.
unity is the first real alternate offering for Coding and Grouping in-patient separations when using ICD-10-AM and the AR-DRG Grouper. Its development has included input from experts in the fields of Clinical Coding, Diagnosis Related Grouping and Hospital Management. It has also included guidance from Australian State Health Authorities, HIMAA, NCCC, and Private Coding Consultants including HIMs.
unity provides the following features to facilitate rapid coding by Coders and HIMs:
- Direct code entry
- Index based selection of codes for both Diagnoses and Procedures
- Coding Routes provide pathways to the most appropriate codes
- Quick list code selection based on documented conventions
- Integrated Mapping of Diagnosis and Procedure codes
- Realtime DRG calculation (v4.0 to v6.0x)
- Funding calculation (user defined formulas via Universal Funding Models)
- Optimizer - view all combinations of coding and DRG assignment
- Discharge Summary generation
- Separation Coding Reports
- Performance Indicators for Coding Quality
- Coding Audit Mode available (see link above)
- Built-in lookup for the Australian Dictionary of Clinical Abbreviations, Acronyms and Symbols
unity is an independent coding centric solution for Medical Records, Finance and Quality Assurance Departments. It can operate in "stand alone" mode to support your Casemix (DRG), Coding, Quality Assurance and DRG financial analysis requirements. It maintains its own databases from which the user can run reports and export/share data. It obtains and maintains read only copies of the patient and admission data records negating the need for double data entry. Once the separation coding is verified all the coding related output data is available for export to the host system if required.
unity integrates with TurboCoder (supplied by EIS) to facilitate selection of Diagnosis, Morphology, and Procedure codes as well as rapid access to code and ACS information. Clarisoft and EIS have committed to enhancing the integration between our two products on an ongoing basis.
The alternatively it to interface unity directly with the hospitals patient
management system. The unity software incorporates any version of AR-DRG
Grouper required (i.e. v4.0, v4.1, v4.2, v5.0, v5.1, v5.2, v6.0 and v6.0x).
Key Benefits
Coding and grouping are only a first step in the process of DRG/Casemix Management. The software assists management of the funding (income) model, monitoring of DRG volumes, control over length of stay while the patient is still in Hospital, discharge planning and review of quality assurance effects that are imposed by DRG financing.
Support for Coders
Grouping Options
Alphabetical Index Lookups
Optimiser - control over income entitlements
Mapping
Errors in Batch
Re-admissions
Bacteria - Infection Control
Disease Index
Clinical Costing Output for Casemix Costing
Export to Excel
Code Search - by number and by word
Grouping Options
Hospitals can process DRG assignment using a choice of Grouper engines - process old data with updated Grouper or use an earlier Grouper engine for comparative studies.
Alphabetical Index Lookups
Coders can access the Alphabetical Index for both Diagnoses and Procedures and select appropriate codes.
Optimiser
The unity Optimiser incorporates recognition of values for unpaid days, low and high trim outliers.
Mapping Tables
Hospitals are able to apply any required mapping tables.
Errors in Batch
Coding errors and questionable DRG assignment are detected and identified. "Drill down" correction of errors is enabled.
Re-admissions
Re-admissions are identified - an important control over avoidable admissions and other factors affecting control over length of stay.
Infection control
Various reports are configured to assist Infection Control - an important influence on controlling avoidable length of stay.
Disease Index
Facility is provided to select permanent patient disease conditions for inclusion in the patient file - each new admission then has these conditions immediately identified, to assist recognition of complication conditions and higher cost weight values.
Export to Excel
The export facility incorporates a funding model and allows Hospitals to design their own analysis and graphs.
Code Search
Interactive coding is provided and you can search the ICD-10 and OPS databases to find the correct code.
Not only does unity evaluate the accuracy of coding, it assists the management of DRG financing, length of stay and quality assurance processes.
There is unlimited application of mapping tables. Discharge Planning is facilitated and there is extensive analysis reporting for clinical indicators. Data export facility enables direct reporting to health insurers and government agencies.
If required, the AR-DRG v4.0 - v6.0 Groupers can be supplied unencumbered and called directly from the host hospital information system (HIS).
Clarisoft's AR-DRG Grouper v5.1 batch processes 17,000 discharge records/sec, according to the Commonwealth of Australia's independent certification testing.
